steve----it should work, i know that the trans crossmember is different, i think the 86 will have some other kind so youll have to go to the junk yard, i dont know about all the fuel lines or rear brake line,
snstr----- you have to use the struts and the spindles together, they have a dfferent bolt pattern, i dont think there is any difference between the control arms

Thanks for the reply, since i put the diff in, i noticed the rear of the car sits higher than it did before i started the swap(the gap between the top of the tire and the lip of the rear fender lip ). Maybe i put shock bushings in the wrong way? Would use of the 4 cyl. control arms cause this? Also, what could i use other than original 5ltr fuel lines? I live in chicago and parts are hard to find? I had to send away a-lot of my parts for the swap while they were on the donor car (see-gallery). Again Thanks Id like to know how any of you guys got yours running.
Another question for anyone. I was at the junk yard today, and saw a 1991 Linc. mark-7. Will the diff work in a mustang? Will it be to wide or wide enough? I thought about it because it has rear disc brakes, and also the front spindles, would it be safe to transfer the strut/spindle and lower control arm. I thought it would be a cheap way to go for a 5-lug conversion. When swapping an aod car to a manual, what kind of problems can be expected?

the intank pump for the 4cyl and the 5.0 have the same part number on autozone.com
so does the radiator if you get the light duty one for the 5.0

hay i belive i have my 86 5.0 to 89 4cyl swap about planned out, it looks like the main pcm harness ties in uder the hood at driverside inner fender ,plugs look a little differ but iam gonna compare wiring digrams ( we have mitchell on demand at shop) and tie em in, i have a ? ,i wanna get a dragracing look but i wanna do doenuts in my little town whenever the mood hits me, so tinkin about a set of wheels like weld pro star 15/8.5 rear and 15/7 in front wondering if you could see the diffance and thay would not look gay, also open to wheel and tire opinoins,89 LX thanks stever80
Does anyone know if it is necessary to change the front control arms, is it real nec. to change the brake booster?,wich brake lines have to be changed? Does anynoe with experience even look at this thread anymore ? Does any one have a pic of the starter relay they can post? This sounds really stupid, but i cant remember wich wires go to wich terminal. I also need help with the vacuum lines/ solenoids by the strut tower on the pass side. I just can't remember. Is there some kind of cooler for the power steering? I beleive the convert that i stripped had one on there but ran out of time when the guy came to pick up the shell. Also, does anyone recall having to replace any brake lines for the swap, something about the pass front?? Is there already a thread on swappin an aod for a 5spd??
there is a power steering cooler on a 5.0, and i had to swap my rear brake line and fuel lines, i had to remove the right front brake line to get the 5.0 fuel lines in but i didnt swap it,

Well, i wired it up and installed the ecm last night put the battery in, hit the key and ............ nothing. I have power,headlights can be turned on even when ignition is off, everything seems to work,wipers, door locks, radio windows up and down, but nothing from the starter, not even a click. Does the trans harness need to be connected? I don't have the aod shifter in yet, but the trans is in park. I had made the mistake of removing the wires from the starter relay when i removed the 2.3 harness, i thought i had installed the wires on the relay the right way, i guess not though. Can someone offer some ideas, something im missing other than what i had stated? Can some one send me a close up pic of a starter relay and to wich terminals the wires go to, i also need some pics of the vacuum hoses that are over by the passenger side strut tower?? On the 2.3 car, originally there was a line/hose (rubber) coming from the gas tank going into a metal line running along the passenger side, my friend decided to help me out and dis-connect it, is this a vent line? Where does this need to go and should i worry about it. If my wires on the starter relay mixed up, will that cause my problem with the headlights haveing constant power?? if there is no shifter there is probably not a neutral switch signal, it wont start when it is in gear normally the shifter tells the ? that it in park or neutral, try turnig the key on and putting power to the small post on the starter relay, that will crank it over

Can anyone post pics of the vacuum lines/ solenoids that are in the passenger side/firewall area and where they connect to? I started my swap in july, but when you work 65 hrs a week its hard to remember that you have such a project and where things went when its time to re-assemble. I am trying to get the shifter cable hooked up, but the stud that attaches to the trans linkage is real loose/wobbly, also, my friend took it apart so im not sure what all was on there to secure the cable, again, pics would help!!

I'm swapping my 91 2.3LX to a 5.0 i'm taking out of a 89 lx donor car.
I was wondering if theres anything i should be worried about with the change throughout the years. the 91 has airbags that i dont really care about. But i was wondering if i can just take the computer out of my 89 and hook it straight up to the 91. Are the airbags going to caise a problem and did the wiring harness change from 89 to 91. If anyone else has anything they wanna give me the heads-up about it would be more then appreciated.
