Default 4 banger to v8 hell

I'm having so much trouble. I've got 2 87 mustang lx convertibles. One is a 4 banger 4 speed and the other is a 5.0 5speed. Ok the first problem is the quadrant I've changed out the clutch assembly and its suspose to adjust but it won't my clutch pedal sticks out about 6 in from where it is suspose to be. The next problem I'm having is the fuel lines I had a helper and he cut my break lines from my 5.0. Is there any short cuts to rerun the lines. Next problem is the wiring harness I changed the main one do I have to change all of them I've got extra plugs on the driver side and I had to take the dash out to change the clutch assembly and now i've to wired that are everywhere. Someone please help before I turn DODGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did anyone that has aod in their car have a problem with the shifter cable? I had a friend helping me so im not sure how the bracket attaches and where the cable runs? I have a uneasy feeling will have to take the trans back out to get the shifter cable bracket secured. Can some one shed some much needed light on this?

I have a 1980 Notch Back, with a 289, 4 speed. My recomendation is to stay away from full length headers, they bite on a big scale when doing a starter change. Traction bars where a good investment also

I just had a question. I'm getting ready to the the swap on my 88 lx/auto. I need to know if any one has had any problems using a T5 tranny with the 302? I plan on doing quite a bit of mods on the performance and hopefully exceeding 300ft lbs torque. I seached for specs on all the T5 trannys used in production on the stangs. It seems like they did a few changes on the T5's from 89-90 and on the 93 cobra T5's. The gear ratios are different in 2nd and 3rd and the torque ratings went from 265-300 (up to 310 on the 93 cobra's) in those years as well. Has anyone ever had a T5 fail them that came from a 86-89? Does anyone make a heavy duty rebuil kit for the T5? I would love to get a T56 but don't have the $$$ for one.

I've found alot of good info throughout this forum but none of it answers my specific question. I have a 93 5.0 LX hatchback that was unfortunatly hit in the front end. Wouldn't be too big of a deal but the car has already been repaired from a similar accident and I don't think it could stand a second round (but that's a different story). I recently found an 87 4cyl LX hatchback that is in good shape (needs paint but it's straight). The biggest question I have is how different is the interior wiring on the two models? Will I be able to use the 93 engine/FI harness with the 87 dash harness or am I going to need to swap the dash harness? I have it but I REALLY don't feel like changing it if I don't have to.

my suggestion would be to go with a 5 liter car already...too much hassle, labor, etc. to do the conversion....you also will be spending alot of $ which could be used for something better to benefit the car

Hello everyone! I am about to buy a 1990 LX convertible with a 2.3l automatic and a 1986 GT notchback with a 5.0 automatic. Is this a good combination? The 90' is in perfect condition body wise and will run with a new fuel pump. The car has 101,000 miles new transmission, alt. and tires and I'm getting it for $500. The 86 is pretty tore up looking but it has the 5.0 engine and tranny. As far as I know the 86 when last ran had some noise coming from the bottom end but the top end was completely rebuilt right now there where no wires or belt or battery so I really don't know but what they have told me about it but for $300 I figure I can't go wrong. Anyway I planned on getting the entire 1990 gt drivetrain for a plug and play type install but with me getting an 86 I'm sure it will probably be more dificult when it comes to the wiring aspect I have no idea what type of wiring is in the 86 I have a basic understanding of the 90 engine but anyway any help would be great!

remember that yo ureally cant build a 86 motor like yo ucan the other years, cuz it has those junk flat top pistons with no valve reliefs...i learned that the hard way..lol

My son has been making the swap from 2.3 to 5.0, here is the data:

Rebuild car:
1992 2.3L LX

Parts car:
1991 5.0 LX Convertable

He has swapped the ECM harness but not the dash harness. He has now run into electrical problems...no power to fuel pump. Does he need to change the dash harness? It looks to me like the wiring is different in a couple of places.

Any help will be appreciated.

send me a pm, i have been throught the loops with wiring during a swap, each year is different in some way or another, i had a 91 doner and a 90 4cyl using a 89 harness, then i ended up buying a painless kit and resolved EVERYTHING, then i had engine problems and just now got a 347 together and now im trying to tune it!!!

Yes the the manual trans from a 4cyl will work on a 5.0 motor. You will just have to get a pilot bearing that fit's in the crankshaft and with a smaller diameter hole for the 4cyl tranny. I put one in my 93 coupe and it ran great.

Tony if you have a good tranny you shouldn't have a problem with it holding up with the 5.0 motor.
