AODs were purely mechanical up until 93 or so. After that the AOD became the AODE and is electronic and requires a matching computer.

I have an "old school" AOD from the junkyard and it's tired, but works fine.

How's Fort Worth? I went to seminary for three years there.

Well like thses other posts have indicated, you are best off with a donor car. If you can get the FEAD (front end accessory drive) complete from a TBird or something that will work better than trying to piece it together with the 2.3 stuff.

I took my 2.3 and everything attached to it to a junkyard.

If youre doing the EFI swap you will need the main harness and engine harness from a 5.0. You should be fine with the dash harness you have now. I just got done with the swap and got it fired up 2 days ago. are you running a manual(A9L ECU) or auto(A9P ECU) tranny? Mass air or speed density?

The easiest way to convert a 4-cyl. to a 5.0 is make it carb'd, other wise u'd be stuck ripping out the dash and replacing the whole harness, i just did a 4 cyl. to 351w swap and it dropped right in, no k-member mods are needed, plus if u make it carb'd you lose all the weight from the harness, mine weighed like 30lbs., it just simplifies the whole project.

Like Mbuehler86 said, you'll probably have to change the dash harness. I just did the swap and was told I didn't need to swap the dash harness, needless to say half my gauges wouldn't work! I had a donor car so I swapped out the dash harness and it works fine now. Also, if your going EFI try to get the main harness out a 93, it has the fuel pump relay under the hood. If not you'll have to jump a wire to your fuse box to get the fuel pump to kick on!

i just did the same and it depends on what aftermarket components you have carb, intake manifold, headers, rockers.....etc. i got a 302 out of a 89 cron vic and converted it to solid lifters......(i did most of this) rebore your block if it even clears .20 which is 302 or .30 which is 306, wash it, put all new bearings get a big cam, you can use the stock crank or which ever, get some good 351w heads with new springs and retainers, port and polish.....you can make an easy 350 if you fine tune it. i have that with a c4 bolted on, quarter stick shifter, 8.8 with 3.73 gears of a mark 7 with disk's in the back. its easy but it takes time.
