I don't know if this is a stupid question or not, but my grandma has 87 crown vic w/a 5.0 in it and i was just curious as to how much different that engine is compare to one from a stang. could you swap that in or maybe a truck 5.0 I have cheap access to both of these from family members that probably never took'em over 3000 RPM. will these work??????
1) the pistons are cast vs. forged in the HO motor
2) the cam is VERY small, makes good lowend, but nothing up top
3) very restrictive heads
4) lower intake is a little more restrictive
5) tiny throttle body
other than that, go right ahead and do it...my motor came out of an 87 grand marquis
Hello
My 86 started out as a 3.8l.I bought from a buddy for 250$,not a bad deal. Before that i had bought a 80 w/the whole drive train.I basicaly yanked out the D/T from the 80 rebuilt it and put it in the 86.I basically yanked the whole wiring harness out of the car and rewired it my self.(thats prob why my fuel gauge dont work) but everything else does.Just remember you gonna have to do a few things to the 4-6 banger vehicle like fuel pump or regulator ,your choice.Cross member, double hump.A bunch of little things.I never did get around to doing the suspension but it seems to work fine ,it dosent sage.I did upgrade the brakes.just my .02.I did have alot of fun building my car thou.It was my first stang and i loved every second of it.
It really depends on your definition of "hold up"...sure, it'll "hold up" if you're easy on it, but even the V8 T5's won't last long if you're hard on it and the 4 cyl T5 isn't as strong as they are.
What after market trans do you think would be a wise choice? I am look at building a 300hp 5.0. One last question is what link would be good for identifying rearends. I was told I might have a 8.8 in my car so I want to double check.
I still need to figure out whether or not the stock four cyl tranny will hold up to the 5.0?
The input shaft on the 4 cylinder T-5 is longer than on the V8. It will bolt up and move, however it preloads the input shaft bearings and will cause tranny failure. Also, the 4 cylinder t-5 has a lower first gear, and will be very short if you have 3.73s or 3.55's in the rear axle.
in doing a transfer form a 4cyl to v-8, you will need to remove and use a v-8 k member, the v-8's 5 spd. if you want to use the front springs from the 4 cyl u can (it is the same setup for the 93 cobra)spindles are the same but the rotors if im not mistaken are different. you need the crossmember for the v-8 5spd if for anything the duals, the complete underhood wiring harness for the engine compartment, or if you look in the ford racing catalog, the sell it in three different kits, one, the engine harness, two the fi harness, and three the sensors.then you will need the mass air and cpu.i believe you said you were already building a motor so,for those building verts, two words: motor mounts. need i say more.

got nitrous? only babies, and little boys with bowties use bottles!
they can take away my keys from my cold dead lifeless hands, if they can catch me first
The "K" members are the same between 4cyl and 8cyl. You do not have to swap out the "K" member, but you do have to unbolt the 4cyl mount from the "K" member.
I have heard that the "K" member was revised. Something about the a-arm mounting points. I'm not sure about this or what year it happened. Anyone else???
