I am currently balls deep in a 5.0 T5 conversion. I have a beat up, twisted, rusted, 91 GT That only has money in the engine. And I have a clean 91 4 banger that appears to have been driven by a granny(I bought it in florida so thats a real possibility)for $2000 so I could have another car to drive and prepare for the swap.
Well the time has come and I have amassed a pletera of parts to help make this worth while. Including A fresh proshifted T5 w/hurst shifter, Aluminum drive shaft, Stage 3 Clutch, Billet fly wheel, and all other
Trans part bought fresh.
I have been working on this swap for about 4 days now with no help at all And have managed To get both engines and wireing out and the 5.0 set in But not hooked up yet. I also have the fuel tanks and lines removed. Since it was an Auto I also spend significant time swapping peddels and removeing the stock shifter, which I underestimated. I thought I would be able to just pull it out real quick, it dont work like that. I couldnt get to the front left bolt with the center counsil in place. Its probly a good thing since there is a big ass aluminum plate on the bottom of the shifter that I dont think would have fit through the shifter hole.
I also swapped the throttle cable since they were different. Be forwarned there is a plate right behind the fire wall that stopps the cable from coming out. I just yanked it but you might be able to do it if you had the pedels out, but other wise it would be nearly impossible to reach, let alone reinstall. If you pull it just enough you will be able to work it out with out damageing the little plastic clip the holds the cable on the pedel. I also have the gauge cluster swapped.
There are a few things to be aware of. the 4 cyl motor mounts have 2 bolts per side. The second one is almost invisible unless your looking for it and the driver side gave me suck a hard time I grinded the ******* off. Also the fuel line supports are riveted in some places. I fust grinded the heads off those.
I am leaveing the rear end in it for now until I have new control arms and shocks because there is no way ill be able to get them off in swappable condition.
Ill be hooking up the wireing and vaccume system tommaro and getting the motor and ignition ready to fire. Im still waiting for my T5 exaust mount . Its been forever. Also I ordered the wrong pressure plate bolts, so im waiting for the right ones to come.
All in all it has been pretty strait forward and allot of hard work but it should be worth it. I hurt right now but ill get over it and ill have a clean, strait
stang that is almost 18 years old.
