Default Im going to do one of these swaps

Got a 1991 Mustang Coupe 2.3 liter and a 1979 Mustang 5.0 donor that is complete with a bad transmission.
Luckily before I junked a 1978 ltd, I pulled the engine and transmission and have the c4 I need along with 8.8
3:73 positive traction rear end, the 5.0 engine
and an entire 79 body that is missing the battery.
The wiring harness issues I've read about present the
most complication to me, got the rear end out of the
1991 and might go ahead and bolt the 8.8 in just to
get it off the stands, maybe see if the torsion arms are interchangeable and viable, I want to buy Isolators
for the springs before I get it in completely and change the
differential fluid maybe go synthetic.
Good thing is, got the driveshafts for the 2.3 liter and 5.0 7.5
and got the gt driveshaft for the 8.8, bad problem before when
this car was running the low gear topped out at 60.
Pretty dang fast in that first quarter but the c4
isnt able to maintain, maybe a AOD tranny?

The c4 is a much better choice than a stock aod for drag racing....

the AOD is a horsepower eating boat anchor......

Definately dont care for a boat anchor, I got a c4 from a Ltd
Maybe it will do better than the previous c4.

RLG, I've favorited your notes on the engine swap and will use them as a guideline. thanks for the advice on the Transmission.

Its been a long 6 months, but my 5.0 swap is almost finished! The one thing that I must suggest to anyone thinking about starting the swap is to have a donor 5.0L on hand if you have the space. It made my life WAY easier having my own personal Pull-A-Part 30ft away.

Another thing to look at is the compatibility of the parts on the two cars you're swapping to and from. This link:Changing a Fox Mustang from a Four Cylinder to a V-8 - 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords Magazine helped a lot when i was going into uncharted territory.

My last piece of advise is on the drivetrain. the 2.3L transmission gears and teeth are smaller and weaker than the V8 tranny, not to mention used, old, and I just assume treated like crap. Murphy's Law: Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong... the same goes for the rear end. My buddy (who would rather save money than do the job right) left in the tranny and rear end from a 2.3L with a V8 @ the front, and by the end of the month it was shredded. He wasn't ammused, but i thought it was hilarious!

To all attempting a 5.0L swap: Good luck, and god speed...

I ready all of the posts and did additional research and still was a lot of trouble to do the conversion. There are many diffecences in the cars between the years of 1987 & 93. My main issues were with wiring! I would suggest buy a 5.0 car. My car si running, but I am still having a rear main seal leak, the rebuilt manual transmission has a small leak and the pinion shaft is leaking. I guess my donor car was not that much of a winner. It is a fun toy, but it is a lot of time.

Default Need help with my swap

First time poster here. Hello!
I got a free 89 2.3L LX notchback and I want to do a swap to the 5.0 along with the tranny and rearend, etc..
I read this whole thread and several others in the last week or so. I ended up getting a junker 90 Mustang GT with a 5.0HO and 5 spd. It's already got the 5 lug conversion from a 95 Mustang. I know it says you need an 89 harness for an 89 car because of the airbag but can't I get around this and run my 90 donor car harness in my 89 car? I really want to use my interior from the 4cyl. because it looks nicer and the dash isn't torn apart and beat up. I don't want the airbag at all and my 4cyl. has tilt and the donor car doesn't so can I make this work? I couldn't pass on the 90 it was only $600 running so it's cheaper then junkyard sourcing parts. I would really apprieciate any help you guys could give if you've done this 89>90 engine swap. Thanks!

Apparently this thread is a ghost town. I guess I'll have to just get into it then and figure it out myself.
