Tony I know the kmember has been revised more than once but like you I cannot remember the years or exact details. Its detailed in one of the more popular Mustang books. I cannot remeber the name of the book either even though I own two copies. My mind is definately cooked.

Excuse me for the late reply

The advantages to the 4-8 swap are, 4cyl Mustangs are usually cheaper to buy. I put mine togather for around 3k.(thats buying the 4cyl Mustang and donor V8 Mustang)
http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum....php?photo=545

4cyl chassis are usually in better shape do to the lack of power. Torque boxs are not torn up frames are not bent from torque wrap-up. And like you said, someone already has a 4cyl Mustang and just wants a V8

I did the conversion to a 89 notch a couple of months ago. Tony pointed me in the right direction. I got a donor car and bought the helms manuals which really helped with the wiring. Car came out fine but as life goes on I found a 91 coupe for dirt cheap and gave my 89 coupe to a friend for a future project and now I am working on my 91. There is about 4 sites online that step you through the process but talking to Tony will help you get configured for the task. It took me about a month just working after work...

I was wondering if anyone here knew how much harder it is to put in a 351w than the 302. I've heard both good and bad about it but i wanted to know from some of you guys that may have done it before wether it is worth the couple extra ponies. I can get my hands on a good 351 at the moment for my notch but i'm not sure if i wanna go through the extra trouble of putting that in.I've heard it's hard to fit it in even with block huggers, and on the other hand i've heard ther's plenty of room. so i'm a lil confused, anyone tried it before? oh yeah, my friend went for a ride in an lx with a 460 in it not to long ago.I didn't get to see the car yet but he said even with the stock motor, that thing was scary!
Apperantly the guy had to do alot of fabricating to make that work though.

From the 351 powered cars I've seen, I don't see any major clearance problems with headers. If you're starting out with a 4 cyl, I believe the extra 49 cubic inches is the way to go.

I'm glad I found this thread. I was just talking about this swap. I have an 85' stang four banger for $200. I also bought an 85' LTD for $300 with a 302. I did a little reading and a little crossing on parts. I could put the engine and trans right into the stang. The oil pan is the same as a Mustang and the trans is the same AOD in a 5.O Mustang. So all I need is a little direction as far as cross members and motor mounts. I'm a newbie in the Ford World. The 302 is TBI but I think I figured out what to do with that ar far as changing over to carb.

Bye the way I love this site.

Manny,

Your cross member/k-member is fine just remove the 4 bangers mounts that are bolted to it. I'm not sure if the trans mount/cross member would be the same between the LTD and Mustang, you may have to locate a Mustang mount. Find one with double humps for dual exhaust. Find some Mustang 5.0 motor mounts and bolt her in.

Thanks, Juatnlx. I have been still soaking in some new ideas. I had a web site that showed a converstion to a five lug and all wheel dics brake system. I was wondering if anybody knew the site. or anywhere I can find the material.
thanks guys

I think a 351 swap is about as easy as a 5.0. The deck height is taller however so you will need to cut a hole in the hood or get a cowl induction hood.

We are getting closer to doing the swap. I just got my dad's 88 Police Interceptor running and out of the garage. Jesse (Stalkerstang) is getting a little edgy. He wants to do the swap himself. So soon!
