a 160* thermostat is too cold, you will wash the cylinder walls

Can you explain this? I don't agree with it but I could certainly be wrong so I'd like to hear your explanation.

I'd like to know too. I've been running a 160* for about 2 1/2 years now. I haven't had any problems but I'd like to know if I'm setting myself up for one.

well, the problem is that the oil does not come quite up to temp, and excess gas can pass the rings, and since gas disolves oil, it could wash the oil off the cylinder walls and scratch them

Ok, but why would you have "excess" gas? I don't see the oil not coming "up to temp" either.

Cylinder washdown can occur if you run REALLY rich. A 160 t-stat won't cause a motor to run really rich.

I'd say low 14's , you have no traction or intake goodies, atleast not stated. Stock throttle body, intake, MAF meter, ignition? Off road H pipe or just cut the cats off your current setup ?

That stock lower intake is not helping you any. You won't get to 240RWHP with the stock lower unless you have on of the few factory "freaks" that seem to pop up occasionally.

Why don't you send me one of those factory "freak" intakes so I can take a good look at it.

and then put it on my car.

NoSlow - I was referring to the car, not just a lower intake. There are a few Stangs that can run low 13s and even 12s in essentially stock condition. Everything just comes together perfect on them.

I can turn your lower into a freak though.
