Default 1991 mustang gt cutting off

My 91 gt Has a problem with cutting off while accellerating. Only when it has rained outside or its really humid. If it is dry its fine. Starts out with check engine light on drives ok then light goes out and motor cuts off. completly no power. i feather the gas a little and it comes back. If i try and floor it its back fires through throttle body. Any ideas on where to start?

No it still has electrical power for the lights, radio, ect. the motor itself just stops running then it starts back up all by itself.

it starts back....................with out turning the switch ????? if your a 5 speed that would happen because the rear wheels are turning the engine..however,i would still say ignition...either pick-up modual theres a TFI,i think thats what its called......also coil could be it ....they can be tricky.....IGNITION is where id be looking.......good luck...please keep informed.

Let me ask this... when it acts up, does the tone of the engine change?

I've had the same exact problem. Every time it rained hard, or there was fog, or even a really heavy dew, it would act up and sound like a damn Volkswagon. It would run only when it wanted to, it would cut off and then wouldn't restart until it wanted to. Took me over a year to figure it out... it was the harness leading to the distributor, the wires had come loose and any moisture would get in and interrupt the electrical current. Only thing I could do is manage to get it started and run it till it got hot, then let it sit in an effort to dry it out. The pigtail had to be replaced, and soldered/heat shrink tubing added to remedy the problem.

Unhappy

Well still no luck so far. I have changed the cap, rotor, and now the TFI module or some call it ignition control module, mounted to the distributor under the cap. Still acting up when wet outside. check engine light still comes on the goes off and engine quits. It does not make any different sounds befor this happens. It seems to drive fine a little sluggish when light is on. Then as you try to accelerate the light goes off and engine quits then light come back on and since my ignition switch is toggle switch for power and push button to engage starter. when the light comes on the engine starts right back up and runs sluggish again. This is driving me crazy. I will try anything just throw the ideas my way please.
