Default 1990 Mustang Convertible 1/4 window won't go up

I can hear the motor running, and the window looks like it wants to go up but then doesn't. There is a popping sound, maybe a gear or something is slipping?

About a month ago when this first started I read directions to repair it online. I think it was here? But I can not find the post again?

Thanks

hey, man ive been there, what you need to do, is take out the motor, when you have the motor out, there will be screws holding the cover over the gear. take off the cover. there should be three nylon bushings inside, chances are yours are in pieces. if you look at the inside of the housing it will kinda have a triangular shape, the bushings go in the tips of the triangle, (you can get the bushings at autozone, in the help section) be sure to clean out all the debri and apply new grease. hope this helps

That sounds like the same problem i'm having. Looks like it's time to pull the window motor.

I've pulled the motor and see what you are talking about. Autozone did not have the part and said the only way was to replace the motor assembly. I went to O'Riely's and heard the same story.

Is this a ford or mustang specific part? Or is there some type of universal bushing that should fit in it? Can I get the part online?

Thanks!

this is not a specific part, they were also used in crown vics and lincolns. if you go in the help section they look like clear round little disks. if you cant find those, use 3/8 nuts they work and you will never have a problem with it again, until the motor goes bad ask for ford power window motor nylon bushings, they will come 3 to a pack

Also I hear that spray paint nozzle tips work well too, or you can go to Home Depot and buy a piece of aluminum rod the right size and cut/make your own part.
Hope this helps.

Thanks! I went back to AutoZone and looked on the aisle instead of asking for help. Found the part. The kid that tried to help me before insisted to me that it would not fix it..... I got home and reassembled the motor.

I'll put it back in the car tomorrow evening. But I'm confident it is fixed.

The window is going up and down now.

BUT it stops about an inch before being all the way up. It doesn't sound like the motor is running or trying to put it up the remaining inch? Is there something that adjusts the travel on the window?

I just had the same problem. Take off the rear quarter panel. If you're looking down at the window, you should see 3 7/16 bolts. Loosen them and see if your window will go up any more. You may need to slide the piece back a little to get full travel.
