Default 1989 Mustang GT Motor Mount replacement. Please help!

hey guys,

so everything started off smoothly and now I want to toss a lit match in the car! grrr.

okay here goes. my 1989 GT motor mounts are worn so I bought the OEM motor mounts and Tranny mount. I have unbolted both mounts and just need to pull them out. I also un-tightened the tranny mount and replaced it with a breeze. 10min top!

now I'm trying to pull out the motor mount (the 1st one) driver side and I can't get it out. I have the motor lifted as far as it can go (i took the fan off)

there's a lot of wiggle room but the stud that goes into the chasis part just wont "fall" out.

any ideas? i've been at this for two hours and it will be dark soon,

please help.

thanks!

Hope you're not waiting for that stud to fall out because it won't. It's there to properly position the mount onto the k member. In other words, that stud is a permanent part of the mount.

no im not waiting for that....sry I meant I can't get it out of the cradle/k member. I unbolted nut from the cradle and the two bolts that attached to motor.

I just figure out how to position the mount so I can pull it out. I wasn't sure if theres something I'm missing

hey man, i just changed my driver side motor mount on my 88 gt about 2 weeks ago...the only thing i can tell is to losin up the trans mount as much as u possibly can without taking it off the car. losin up your pass. side mount a little bit and jack up the motor and trans by using the bell on the front of the trans. it wont give u much room but just enough to slide your new mount in. i also shaved a couple mm's off the bolt that goes into yourk member. the bolts on the replacement parts are a little bit longer then the stock parts so you should be ok...mine has worked fine.

i dont kno if thatll help you out or if you already tried that but mine went in easily. so good luck.

thanks for the tip. I ended up repositioning the floor jack to the bell housing as you mentioned.

world of a difference with elbow room! I combined your idea with that of another forum (one at a time) and it came out!

hell it was cake getting it in.

thank you!!
