Default TPS bad or COMPUTER bad?

Ok so I've had issues with starting, cold idle, and other sorts...

So I measured the voltage from to and from the TPS, with car on (not running) I got 5 volts (@ idle position)!!!!

So then I thought well I might as well check the sensor, I pulled it off and it reads normal for ohms.. Runs up and down the scale like normal..

Is there a way to check the computer to make sure it's good?

I also ohm'd out wires 46 & 47 to the TPS and they are fine. I ohm'd them out from the computer plug and they produced different ohm's at different Throttle position.

Regardless, I think I'll try a different TPS before anything else.

any thoughts?

The computer is kind of tricky, because most times you don't find out it's bad until it starts kicking out faulty codes, Mike. SCT Tuner.

TPSs can go wacky and not work but seem fine. You could even buy a new TPS and it have a problem when you get it. I would suspect the TPS before the computer, it isn't often the computer takes a dump like that.

Yeah I hear ya. The only reason why I'm asking cause when I did the ohm check into the computer (signal return) you should get less than 1.5 ohm resistance. But I get something wacky like 5k.... I have the TPS sensor now and will try that today...

Run the KOEO test and list the codes that show up.

ok got new computer in and can finally get KOEO codes:

KOEO
22-31-82

KOER
94-44-31-12

So,
82-secondary air bypass circuit failure
94-secondary air injection INOP bank 2, driver side
44-secondary air INOP bank 1 passenger side

any ideas on where to start?

Car Idles fine @750 if I bring the revs up to 900-1500 the engine surges about 200 rpm until I let off the gas and the rev bounces back to normal (750).

I'm thinking vacuum lines? Should I be concerned with the anything other than the 3 main vacuum lines. Brake Booster, CC, A/C? I don't need to worry about emissions, I just need the surging to stop, other than that, car runs strong. Just jumps around at that range.

5.0 Stock
TPS .98
T5 WC (rebuilding)

thx

What do you mean "bring the Revs up"? Are you using the gas pedal, or the throttle stop screw?

gas pedal...

but coupe, even if I were to set the stop screw that high it will still surge...

I don't touch anything during the test...

But even during the test the engine surges up and down, it won't stay @ 1500 during the test like its suppose to, I'm getting all kinds of weird readings on my balance test, obviously since, its surging....

new wires, new sparks, should I try a cap next?

The KOER test will surge like that. Code 12 could mean you have IAC not acting right. Try and clean it out. Go to the EGR valve, take it off, and clean its plunger to make sure its seating all the way down.

Are you using the EGR as a functional component?

Caps are cheap, that's up to you.

IAC is new, no EGR...

could a MAF do this? I've cleaned it, but I might try a new one... just FSG....

I'm also thinking maybe a fuel pump, I'll test the PSI tonight...

is it suppose to surge on a cylinder check? I thought at the cylinder check it ramps up to 1500 and holds.

Cylinder Test cuts off the injectors, then measures the RPM drop if Im not mistaken. So yes it could surge a tad.

Problem fixed, fouled injectors....

funny, I was looking online for those canister kits to clean the injectors... $130-$350

I was like pshhhh... took a small camping propane tank (emtpy) tap'd it with NPT one for air (30psi) in and removed the main valve.. poored in sledgehammer, hooked it up with a small hose (100 psi rating) to my rail and boom, cleaned all my injectors.

Take that cold hard cruel world!
