Default 1989 Mustang GT Sensor Cleaning, advice please

Hello everyone, well I have had my 89 GT for a month now and as the weather is slowly turning into salt road winters here in the Northeast I am ready to put her to bed for the winter. I am also ready to slow down and really go through this 120,000 mile beauty and get her running as good as possible. As my employment status has me on a tight budget I figure it is perfect time to start the little stuff first and I was wondering if you knowledgable people can lend advise to other things I should look at. Right now here is the list of things to get done:

MAF cleaning
TPS cleaning (looking for how to)
TPS adjustment
IAC cleaning (looking for how to)
TB Cleaning
All fluid changes
all filter changes
check out plugs wires ect.. change as necissary
Replace blown bulbs in gage cluster (looking for dash removal how to).

and I got a little oil leak somewhere so I will track that and figure out which gasket/seal I need to replace. Just some backround for anyone thinking they have an idea for me, I have all the tooling I should need for basic repair and maintenace, a 2 post lift, and mechanics in the family when I am uncomfortable doing something myself. Can't wait to hear what you guys have for me. Thanks in advance for any advice.

As far as cleaning your MAF, make sure you use nothing but CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner!!!! If you use anything else but, you can ruin your MAF Sensor. As for the others, you can use a little injector cleaner. But be very cautious, when cleaning your MAF Sensor that you don't break one of the wires. You'll also need a special torx head driver, to remove one of the screws and make sure you allow enough time to air dry the MAF Sensor, Mike. SCT Tuner.

Thanks for the info ITLRUN, I think I read somewhere that it is a #20 Torx security bit. When I worked motorcycles we just took a metal punch and punched out that silly security stub, but I think I am going to invest the 10 bucks and get a set of drivers since I plan on having this car for quite some time.

You don't clean a TPS sensor and be careful removing the IAC, wait til the engine is cool or you might break a mounting bolt if it's never been taken off. I got TB cleaner at advance auto, Valvoline Synpower series... You forgot to mention the most important filter? The FUEL!

I've always used Brake Cleaner to clean the MAF.

Never once had an issue, since around '96...

Usually cheaper than the special MAF cleaner. Compare the labels
(may have to look at the MSDS though )

i would only use cleaner suitable for electronics on the maf. Better safe than sorry. As for your oil leak chances are it's the rear main seal.. not hard to do just alot of time. But hopfully it's something else. where is it leaking from?

rjcornine, don't know where the leak is comming from yet I just discovered it and have not had the time to check it out and trace it down. I hope it is valve covers, being that the previous owner had them off and powder coated them I am hoping they just did not get tightened properly. As far as the cleaners I am going to use the MAF specific cleaner just cause. Brutal Metal, thanks for the heads up on the not cleaning the TPS saves me a lot of time trying to find literature that doesn't exist. The fuel filter is also on the short list of things that need to get changed.

Don't really want to harp on this.... but seriously guys....
Read the label on your favorite MAF Cleaner, then compare it to both chlorinated and non-chlorinated brake cleaners....

You may be surprised what you have been spending more $$$ on....
