Default 1992 Mustang gt oil pan gasket leak

I seem to be getting a slight drip from the front of my oil pan, it appears to be coming from around the crank shaft area but not sure. Is there a front seal or a crank seal there or is that just part of the pan gasket? And does anyone know any tricks on a simple way to change the pan gasket?

1986-1995 Ford Mustang - Felpro Timing Cover Gasket Set

It's more than likley your front main seal. The link will bring you to the gasket kit you will need to accomplish that tast. There is a really good sticky on "how to change your timing cover gasket". It will take about 3 hours with basic handtools in the driveway.

If you go the entire oil pan gasket route you will have to unbolt your mounts and raise the engine. Make sure you change your oil pump while the pan is off.

It could be the crank seal, but it could be a major beotch to change it. Just don't pry on it using the timing cover, many have cracked it before the seal comes out.

Yeah! Do not attempt to pry on the seal using the cover. The cover is made of cast aluminum and will crack!! You are better off changing the entire gasket set. If you have the funds; change the water pump while it's off. Usually only about 35$ for a rebuilt Motorcraft pump. If you have over 100K miles on the Fox then check for slack in your timing chain while you are in there. you can pick up a double roller Comp Cams chain and gears for about 35$ from LateModleResto. The gasket kit is like 20$.

The balancer will be the hardest part of the task. But, inspecting and replacing these worn parts while you have it dissesembled will pay huge dividens if you plan on keeping the Fox. Balancers go bad too. The Rubber/Epoxy they use to fill them starts seperating from the rear of the balancer. Inspect that too!!

Check out the sticky that Eagle has on replacing the timing cover gasket. It's really good!!
