Default 5L won't start/missing when it does. Help?

Hi everybody. I've been trying to solve this for a week but no luck so far, so it's time to turn to the forums.

My car is missing throughout the rev range. At times detonating. It won't hold an idle long enough to warm up, and the one time it did it ran great until warm-up and then crapped out.

I've replaced the Dist. cap + rotor, plugs, wires, ignition control module, cleaned the IAC sensor, MAF, cleaned the throttle body, tested fuel pressure at 40psi. Starter solenoid was on its way out so I replaced that too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your next step would be to do a compression test. If all is ok could be intake mani gaskets or timing.. what was the car doing before this started happening??

If compression is low either piston rings or head gasket.. drip some oil in the cyl(s) that are low compression and if it improves then it's your rings if not headgasket. My car did the same and it was headgasket.

Have set the timing to 12* with spout out. It shouldn't be having issues there. I'll check the compression tomorrow when I get a guage. thanks.

any other ideas?

You might also look at your hall effect sensor(spark plug pickup) located under the rotor in your distributor. Mine came loose, and was causing the exact same problem you are describing.

check and make sure the firing order is correct, if this checks out then check your coil.
