If you look at the flywheel, one side has a nice smooth surface for the clutch disc to ride on and the other side does not. That smooth side faces the transmission.
As far as bolting it up, the bolt pattern for the crank will only line up one way so you can't get that wrong.
You really should get yourself a Chilton's or Haynes or better yet, go to Do it Yourself Automobile Repair Manuals - Mitchell 1 DIY and pay $11 for 7 days or $30 for a year and you have access to Factory service manuals like they use in dealerships.
You print off as much as you'd like for no extra cost.
The flywheel has to be torqued down correctly and to spec so don't fudge on that step and make sure you do it correctly.
