Isn't there only one wire on an 88 5.0 starter that comes off of the starter solenoid on the L/S fender ???

You mention wires?
If it's the correct starter then your 88 is the same as my 89 and that only has 1 wire from the starter to the starter relay/solenoid.
If it is a 92-93 Ford mini starter then you'd have 2 wires (1) 12 gauge wire and (1) 4 gauge wire.
Unless you're talking about wires that go to the starter replay/solenoid?

look for your starter solenoid (mines on the passenger side fender well, but i beleive 88 had it on the driver side) your poisitive battery cable will go right to it. then, on the opposit side of the solenoid there will be a little bolt, you will need to get a cable, that looks like the end of the battery cable attached to the solenoid, and you will need to put it on that post on the solenoid, and tighten it down with a nut. there will be an identical looking bolt sticking off of the starter. put the cable on there and fasten it down with a nut.

i have no idea if that makes sense, but i beleive in you. you can figure it out!
