Question Questions on a Stall Converter "Torque Converter"

My stang is pretty much stock. I was told if I changed the stall converter, that I would need a bigger cam? If so, does anyone have any recommendations? Its a 1991 GT Vert, AOD, and just seems a tad doggish.

1) Any recommendations on which stall converter (2800, etc)
2) Do I really need a bigger cam?

thanks in advance!

I disagree - you don't need a new cam, but DO match the stall comverter and your gears. If you put a 2,800 rpm stall in a car with 2:73 gears you'll hate it. Go 2,800-3,000 rpm stall and 4:10s for a good match.

get a torque converter from a 93 t-bird that had a 5.0, with a stock mustang u will get an additional 400 stall speed, this is guarenteed, when u buy a converter u really dont know what ur gonna get, and most guys are usually not satisfied, i never was, that set-up works, for sure, a lot of my friends did it in the eary 90's, when parts were unavailable

I've had better luck with TCI converters than I've had with even the more expensive companies...their 2400 stall converter seems to work real well with the stock motored cars. Just make sure you get a lock-up converter.

No, whoever told you that doesn't know what they're talking about.

we bought a lentech strip terminator trans for the factory stock car. 4,200 stall, manual lock up converter, full manual valve body, and a transbrake. how serious are you about racing. alot high stall some little stall with the stall we drive the car on the street all the time. just make sure to get a tranny cooler to handle the extra heat.

That statement can't be stressed enough. It's one of the most important investments you'll make when it comes to an automatic transmission.
