ford 302 casting number identifacation

hi I just purchased a 5.0 from a guy to rebuild I wanna know what I have it was out of a mustang it was fuel injected and it is a roller cam I pulled everything apart head gasket was shot the only number or tag was on the right side of the the engine looks like its screwed on it says 5a24 this is the only number I can find

I believe that number your look at is the date code. Your gonna want to find another stamped casting on the block that'll read something like C90E-B, C80E-A (these are just for examples)...

5A24 = January 24, 19_5 (1975, 1985, or 1995)

Get the partial VIN from the rear of the block and I can probably able to tell you exactly what it's from. Depending on the year the block was cast, the partial VIN is in one of two locations....

numbers

hey guys this info is great but I still can't find numbers any where the only number I found on the block is 5A24 and on the under side of the head is E7TE OR E5TE HEEELLLLPPPP!!!!!!!is it possable it didn't come with a number

Check the info at How to read fords casting numbers .... the block casting number is near the starter location. LUK

The engineering number WILL NOT tell you what year the block was cast (the date number '5A24' does) or what the engine was from (the partial VIN does) but if you must know where that number is, look in this area:

Sorry not trying to hijack your thread but trying to get in touch with fox. Can't pm you I'm trying to decode a 5.0 I picked up. Guy said it was a 90 gt motor n

E88A and partial vin on back is 55693233 any help appreciated. Thanks!

"55693233" is not a partial VIN. Are you looking in the correct area? It will NOT be near the "E8BA" csting number. (The second pic I posted is the correct location.)

If the block were from a '90 GT, the partial VIN would be "LF" and then six numbers.
