Default AOD Transmission Question

I have an AOD transmission with 160,000 miles (50,000 on the engine) in my stang right now and ever since I've had it (one year) it's given off a low howl/whistle noise when i first accelerate and it changes pitch when the transmission shifts. Its not an extremely loud noise but very noticable. The transmission performs pretty well otherwise and doesn't hesistate or shift too hard. My question is if anyone knows what this noise could be and if its worth fixing with so many miles on it? I have another transmission thats exactly the same AOD with 5000 miles on it and its fully rebuilt. Is it smarter to just put the new one in or attempt to fix the original? I'm starting to put performance parts in it now and I'm wondering if I should instead put my money towards paying a mechanic to put the new one in. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

In some places you can buy a new reman transmission for less than the cost of a rebuild. Here in Ocala, FL. a rebuild is $700-800. I can get a reman tranny, fresh out the box for $400. it pays to shop around, but 160K miles, you're looking at a complete overhaul, i wouldnt leave any stone unturned in redoing that. If you already got the 5000 mile one, slap that one in there as a useable one, and start saving for a rebuilt, rock-crusher AOD. As for the noise, if it shifts fine, i wouldnt think valve bodies... perhaps shift modulator?
hope this helps..

Default AOD Transmission Question

Whats the difference between a reman and rebuild adam?? The one I have that I want to put in the car with 5000 on it, is completely rebuilt but I'm still going to take it to a shop to make sure everything checks out. Are you saying its a waste to put this one in, will it last?I was just a little confused by your post. I know theres some kind of performance enhancements to the tranny but i forget what the guy said he did to it. Thanks

I tend to be confusing at times, especially when i ramble on and on and on and....
There really is no difference between a remanufactured tranny and having one rebuilt, except that to take yours to go get rebuilt at a tranny shop is usually $700 + unless you got a friend.... to buy a remanufactured transmission where everything is brand new, i quoted a price of $400 the other day, prices may vary, but thats close to $300 you save.
The trans with 5000 miles on it, go ahead and use, you shouldnt have probs with that for a long time..what i recommended is use the 5000 mile tranny and if you wanna build an all out performance tranny, save some money to get the old one rebuilt while you drive the 5000 mile one with out problems...
sorry for the confusion...
