It's almost directly below the Alternator.

Ok when the belt isn't on the smog pulley there is going to be very little surface contact between the belt and water pump pulley, when the belt went down to the smog it made the belt cover a third of the water pulley now when it goes from the crank to the alt, the water pulley just kinda presses up to the belt between them, kinda like the tension pulley but even less contact, will the pump still turn alright or do I have to put a dummy pully down there so the belt runs the same old rout?

this is it. It may be confusing, but the water-pump turns counter clockwise. all the rest go the same as the motor. That size is usually the right size, but sometimes it may take a few tries to get it right. I just kept swapping belts at the auto store until i got the right. The guys there didn't mind.

Is it ok to just leave the pump just like it is just no belt for a while or do you need to disconect the pump when you bypass?
