[5.0 beast]

I'm needing to know if the 85 gt 302's were roller or non-roller motors and also if a set of tfs tw heads would work on them? i've heard both yes and no from a couple people so i figured i'd ask a broader group.

i know the easy way to find out is to just take my heads/intake off and look inside, but i was hoping to find out before i did all of that just in case it wont work so i dont waste my time. i've heard/read that the 85's were forged, i've heard they weren't, i've heard they're flat top and i've heard that they have valve reliefs for tw heads. it would really suck if this cam i just bought wont work if these motors were flat tappet motors. but anywho, i'll await your replies

Dont know about the pistons but that WAS the first year for the flat tappet, so thats a yes.

Cranks in all 302s were never forged, except the BOSS 302.
Rods were always forged.
Pistons weren't forged until the '85 model year (4V engine only).

The only H.O. 5.0L engine that did NOT have valve reliefs was '86.

'85 carbureted 5.0L engines had:

roller block
roller cam/lifters
flat-top forged pistons w/ valve reliefs

early '85 CFI 5.0L engines had:

non-roller block
non-roller cam/lifters
flat-top cast pistons w/ valve reliefs

"mid" (don't know when that was) '85 CFI 5.0L engines had:

roller block
non-roller cam/lifters
flat-top cast pistons w/ valve reliefs

"very late" (don't know when that was) '85 CFI 5.0L engines had:

roller block
non-roller cam/lifters
flat-top forged pistons w/ valve reliefs
