Talking Wow! Just did the MAF conversion!!!!!!

Well, I just finished doing the MAF conversion on my '88 vert and what a difference. I used one of those C&L MAF sensors and a '93 Cobra ECM. It's like a new car. The car currently has a cam and before the conversion, the idle was very erratic and from time to time it would stall, now with the MAF, the idle is still rough but not erratic. I can feel the cam. I also installed a new cold air intake kit and took it for a drive, this is awesome, like I said, a brand new car!!

Thanks a lot to Topless88gt50 for all the help and information!!!!!!

Great, It is amazing how well the MAF can sample the airflow. Now that you have the MAF you can make ECU tuning more percise.

Spyder, what's the difference between them? The electronics can only provide a defined voltage range to the ECU so I guess the difference lies in the volume of the sampling tube, correct?

Jimmy

I'm going with a Pro-M 75mm MAF Converson Kit for my 86 GT configured for 30lb injectors. I'll let you know how it works out.

Can anyone, please tell me why it is so important to convert to MAF, before I do any modification to my stock 88 vert with an AOD ?
I'm a little confused, reading from another which states that to,
"Convert your 1986-88 Mustang 5.0L production ''speed density'' system to a ''mass airflow'' system! This kit directly measures engine airflow and supports engine modifications and is required before making ANY performance modifications to the engine and powertrain of EFI Mustangs. The kit maintains good drivability when you improve performance with camshafts, heads, mainfolds, headers and dual exhaust systems, and gear ratios. The EEC-IV microprocessor included in these kits are programmed to provide appropriate fuel flow and spark advance for stock and modified engines."
The kit in question that I'm talking bout is the "Ford Racing EFI Mass Air Conversion Kit".
Can some one enlighten me on this topic.

If you go with a bigger cam than stock you going to run into major idle problems and power brakes problems. Also, supercharged or turbocharged vehicles are more effective on a MAF metered system than speed density (86-88 non california models).

So far I have put in my stang performance pullies, put in a K&N, put in a hotter TFI module, shortie headers, and an X pipe. All mods work perfectly with my speed densitiy system. Next on my list are Cobra 1.7 RR and a new intake with 65mm TB and then 3.73 gears. I think they all will work good with speed density but not a new cam or power adder!! BTW my idle has never been better.

GHOSTDOG < < < THANKS DUDE ! RIGHT NOW I HAVE NO PLANS FOR A CAM AS THE RULES AND REGULATIONS IN THIS COUNTRY FORBID ME TO DO THIS. SUPERCHARGER, FORGET THAT IDEA, NOT WHERE I LIVE AND WITH THE STRICT LAWS HERE ON POWER ADDERS, SO I GUESS I'M OK THEN WITH THE SPEED DENSITY.> > >

black87gtconv < < <thanks dude, I've got MAC headers on order, A k&n already installed, Mr. Gasket Performance Pulleys that are yet to go on, so I guess, I'm ok then, right ? > > >
