Default aluminum drive shaft

I gotta few quick questions. What are the benefits of an aluminum driveshaft and how easy are they to install? I gotta few bucks coming my way here soon and I'm looking to dump a few of them into the stang, is the aluminum driveshaft worth the while and money? Thanks for any input.

It's a piece of cake to install. All you do is raise the rear , unbolt the old driveshaft from the rear end. Then Pull it towards the back. Slide the new driveshaft in and bolt it in. The hardest part is the area you are dealing with , which is the exhaust and under the car.

My driveshaft bolts were on there really really tight and had to use another wrench for the extra leverage.

I took my old driveshaft to my welding class to keep a dummy yoke incase I have to remove the trans and do not want to spill the fluid.

The bolts are 12pt 12mm, btw. If you don't have access to air tools, it's wise to grab a second wrench(as mentioned above) for easier removal of the bolts, as their typically very tight and the added leverage is often needed. Also, you may need to move the old D/S forward about 1/2" so it will drop clear of the differential and in some cases it may be helpful to remove your H- or X-pipe as well.

I advise breaking all bolts loose before removing any of them completely. Also, you'll want to loosen those you can reach easily, then put the transmission in neutral and roll a wheel to access the others as you go. Once they're all loose it shouldn't matter if it's in gear or not, so long as you can reach them.

On installation, get some medium strength Loc-Tite so it stays attached later. Vibration can cause bolts to loosen with time otherwise.
