Will work may require some wires moved in the plugs, but shouldnt be anything major.

no it wont be plug&play.....

1990 will have 2 plugs that connect to the dash harness
1992 will have 1 plug, and depending on whether its early 1992 or late 1992,it may or may not have the fuel pump relays on the harness..in mid 1992-1993 ford moved the FP relays under the MAF instead of under the drivers seat like all the other years

if you have a 1990 dash harness,you need a 1990 engine/computer harness..its an oddball year

breakdown of compatible years:

87-89

1990

1991-mid 1992

mid1992-1993

1987 Notchback - N/A stock 302, TFS heads, Holley Systemax, FTI cam, Astro A5
Best so far: 10.92 @ 123mph with a 1.49 60ft

you're going to have to add/rearrange a whole bunch of wires and add and re-wire the 2nd connector

1992 only has 1 plug(orange) that plugs the dash harness into the engine harness

the 1990 has 2(1 black, 1 gray)

that might be even harder to do...

the 87-mid 1992 cars have the fuel pump relay under the drivers seat..the mid 1992-1993 cars have the fuel pump relay attached to the engine harness near the MAF

mix-matching the years may not have the proper wiring PIN'd correctly for the fuel pump relay which is under the seat in your 1990 body

heres a few 1990's for sale:
For Sale complete 1990 FI harness - Corral.net : Ford Mustang Forums

or PM this guy..he has tons of stuff
87-93 mustang wiring anything you need - Corral.net : Ford Mustang Forums

its waaaaaay easier to just get the right harness..believe me..i just went thru the whole 4cyl swap thing..its a PITA..and i'd rather change a computer harness than a dash harness ANY day of the week..pulling the whole dash out..thats a **** job....
