Hey I have a question about a Swap I tore up the Rear end in my 82 Gt and was wondering since I cant find any 82s around what rearend or what year will fit without major mods, oh and before you ask "The housing broke in half after the ring gear went Sideways and broke an axle"
any 79-93 mustang or the early capri's will work . Your car came stock with a 7.5 inch rearend . Now would be a good time to upgrade it to an 8.8 rear . You can find an 8.8 for sure in any 5.0 stang from 87-93 . Probably more years than that , but I know those years for a fact . But like I said , if you dont care about the size of the rear then any 79-93 rear will fit .

Yeah the 9" is better , but there is no bolt in 9" for the fox body . You can get one by ordering it , but the 8.8 is almost just as good , after c-clip elims It's pretty strong . And you can get one for a stang at just about any junk yard .

For drag racing a "C" clip elim. is ok but is not recomended for the twisties
Mine is a custom housing for centered pinion and torque arm, but you can get one that will bolt right in with upper control arm mounts.
What I like about the 9" is that it is much, much easier to carry a few third members with different gears for different tracks then a few different rear axle asm.
For most applications a 8.8 will do just fine and would be the cheaper route to go

For an '82 (GT or otherwise), not exactly. Yes, any rear from those year will physically bolt into the car. But if you get a rear from an '85 7.5 or an '86-up 8.8, the brake line junction is going to be on the wrong side of the assembly. Either you reuse the brake line (on the 7.5 rear) from the '82, get all the brake lines (from front to rear) from the '85 7.5/'86-up 8.8 donor vehicle, or make new lines for the rear. If you're going to argue semantics and say the brake line issue has nothing to do with any '79-'93 rear bolting right into an '82, then any '94+ rear will too.
I would suggest, to keep things simple, that for an '82 (GT or otherwise), you get an 8.8 rear from an '86-'93 V8 Mustang and reuse the brake line (on the 7.5 rear) from the '82.
Not saying there are going to be any problems. But you don't just bolt the rear in the car, connect the lines that are original to the car and the new rear, and go.
For vehicles with single exhaust the flexible line goes from the right subframe to the center of the right axle tube. For vehicles with dual exhaust (and '85 with dual tailpipes), the flexible line goes from the floor pan to the left of the driveshaft tunnel to the top left of the differential housing.
To put an '86-'93 8.8 in a '79-'84 V8 you need to do one of the three I mentioned above. Reusing the (hard) brake line from the original (7.5) rear is the easiest and quickest way.
