Angry '95 GT 5.0 - Engine dies for 1 to 15 sec while driving

I have a '95 GT 5.0 approx 160,000 miles, still runs great except occaisionally (about every 50 miles) the engine just dies for 1 to 15 sec while driving. The problem is getting worse! More frequent, longer dead periods) If I'm on the highway I leave the clutch out and usually the engine restarts. Once or twice I have had to pull over and crank the engine. Sometimes it starts right away, sometimes not.

I have had it hooked it up to a computer -- no codes.

I have replaced ignition module, rotor, dist cap, spark plug leads, spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter.

I have had it twice in the shop - 2 different shops - no luck!

Any ideas? Anyone who has had similar problems? (I'm about to dump the car ... )

I would bet money that the problem is the "pick up" coil inside the distributor. It happened to me too. try to replace very soon, or it will leave you stranded when you least expect it

mine has started doing stuff like that only it (knock on wood) always lets me start right back and go on. But its not every 50 miles it when ever. i almost think it might be in my fuel filter.

The last shop I had my Mustang in said that if they were to guess they would say that it is the "pick up" coil inside the distributor ... since Maximumrisk gave his feedback I am going to try that. Will let everyone know if this corrects the problem! Thanks.

We dont have a pick up coil in the distributor . we have tfi modules though . That would be my guess .

I think the TFI was last used in the '93 or '94 Mustang ... see http://www.coolcats.net/tech/troubleshooting/tfi.html ... also see http://www.tfisettlement.com/vehicles.html

Sorry for the delay in getting this posted ... it was the "pick-up" coil inside the distributor! Car's been running great for 6 months!
