Default Shorter Serpentine belt for underdrive pulleys?

The previous owner of my car said he installed underdrive pulleys. One question on that, how can I tell? The alternator is new, and looks like it has the pulley that came with it on it. I would rather have the stock pulleys. Anyway, my original question. Do you need a shorter serp belt to run underdrive pulleys? I took the part number off the one that is on my car, its a Dayco brand, and that part number does not match the recommended number from the factory website. So either the PO bought the wrong size or put a different one on.

Thanks- Mat

usually you dont need a different belt, but you should be able to cross over the dayco belt to a gates number then check the application

take the number to a Advance Auto Parts (Dayco is an Advance brand) and have them "Part Interchange" it for you and see what happens.
