Default Good Deal??

I'm getting a pair of headers installed sometime this week and the guys i'm having do it (who have done all the work on my car and are trustworthy) offered me a used offroad x-pipe for $150 installed to go with them. Would you guys consider this a good deal or should i not do it. I'm waiting on a response now to how "used" it is and who makes it. I have the money but i'm not sure as to how good/bad a deal this is considering i have no experience with exhaust components. Does it matter if its used, minus dings and dents, because it can't really crap out like cats can right? And are offroad x-pipes legal on a street car cause i still need it to pass inspection but we don't have emissions testing here in NY. Any help? Thanks

Offroad pipes are NOT legal, you will fail the visual inspection.

And the price is a bit high, for $150 you can get a new one.

I found out the rest of the info. that its a BBK offroad x-pipe that is like new and is stainless steel with chrome flanges, do they even make them like that anymore? I have a guy that will pass me on inspection but does this info. change anything or should i just forget it and buy new somewhere down the road. My stock h-pipe has 160,000 on it, how long do cats. usually last. They passed an emissions test in georgia about a year ago. The $150 includes installation if that changes anything.

Come again...

We dont have emmisions?

YES BUDDY WE DO!

I had to pay off a inspection place $80 to pass me because I couldnt pass without cats(wasted O2 sensors also)!

Those cats on that 160K car are about to drop dead soon...

$150 is very good deal with install...

I paid $180 for the pipe alone(flowtech) and $40 for install(gave me a deal because he re-did my tranny)

So yes it is a good deal...

BOY let me tell you! When you run your car the first time... with that offroad x-pipe... tha baby will growllllll and make you want to just drive the car all day...
This is true if you dont mind the noise and love the sound...

GOODLUCK!
Pete

sounds like a decent deal, but how much are they charging you to install headers?you can do the headers and x-pipe yourself, its really not that bad, all you need is basic handtools and everything bolts right up except for grinding the dipstick flange but a dremel works for that, save money and do it yourself, you'll gain a better understanding of your car that way and feel better when its all done...just my .02

I do a lot of work on my car myself but i have a pair of friends that do work for me who own a local shop and they have better tools/experience.They are charging me $250 for parts and install of the headers plus another $150 if i get the x-pipe. And pete i wasn't saying that we don't have emissions, at least in NY they don't test like they do in other states, just a visual inspection, what i said was i had someone that would pass me regardless since they don't have cats. But now the question is i can pass it on inspection (with stock h-pipe) and then get the work done and worry about it next year, but then i risk having to swap the stupid thing once inspection rolls around again. I don't know what do u guys think i should do?? I could always hold off and spend a lot more cash on an h or x with high flow cats and not worry about it. Ya know the funny thing, i see POS on the road without bumpers, windows, headlights, and wonder how the they passed, lol!

YEAH!! RIGHT ON!! i would never pay somebody to work on my car if i can do it myself!if i dont know how to do it i learn. i ask you....where is the pride when all you do is dish out the money and have other people build your car?!?

headers and x-pipes are crazy easy! just take out the old headers and bolt up the new ones, then put on the x-pipe. the shop cant have better tools to do the job because a 7/16 wrench is a friggin 7/16 wrench! sorry.....i just had to get that off my chest.

hey STANGLX

I in now way am a super tree hugger or anything but... to answer your Q'n is for you to answer it by these Q'ns

Can you afford a HIGH FLOW CAT H or X pipe?
$275-$400 price range
Do you like to contribute more pollutents into the atmosphere(OUR OZONE IS DEPLETING) or would you be caring and worry about it and not pollute?

I personally have had the offroad H pipe in my car for several months... well almost 1200miles on it... and I personally dont like it because it emits too much emmisions into the atmosphere, and with these hot winters and crazy one day hot one day cold summers...I am changing into a high flow catalyc Xpipe within the month or 2 when I am done with my car completely with all installs.

I know I know... this guys a tree hugger and wow big deal everyone else got one so I should get one too... well I just been thinking bout things and have been reading up on things and nothing seems to be good for us nomore, I just done want to be swimming under water in a few years cuz of melting glaciers the size of half of America MELTING!

But im gonna do a difference, and so should everyone else...

SORRY GUYS, BUT it is true, we are killing ourselves...

and NO IM NOT A HUGGER!!!!!!!

Pete

Import Slayers unite!
Ive had some thoughts about this.. and im not one to use the "everyone else is" excuse. but without cats, Ive had my car tested and its not putting out too bad of emissions.. the leaded fueled cars, big blocks, and non-tune up cars, are the ones that really kill things..but yeah its a whole big story there..
But this gets off topic.. If you want to continue it.. feel free to start another thread with your opinions.
If its in good condition I think that price is good.

if we really want to control emmisions then we should be putting cats on farm equipment and lawn tractors......do you knwo how much polution is created by this stuff? its a lot! but nobody tries to reduce emmisions from these vehicles......so the way i see it, until the government starts to reduce pollutants from these others sources im not going to wory about not having cats on my car.

and what about all those big factories that probably do more damage to the environment in one day than my car would in my whole life? and what about what vortex said? now im not against trying to keep the world clean for our future generations......i just find it hard to spend more money on an h-pipe with cats when there are so many other sources of pollution that could be addressed.

oh well.......thats another glance into my mind....i hope i didnt scare anyone!
