What can cause the EEC relay and fuel pump relay to sporatically trip?
my first post here nice to meet you guys and hopefully get some help.
imhaving some electrical problem with my ride, i can be crusing and something will trip my eec relay causing my fuel relay to trip also. this has been gong on for now for a weeks and a half and im suppose to drive to south carolina in her on friday. if someone can tell me what keeps triping my relay it would really make me rest on my trip. i have changed both relays the eec and fuel, it seams it only does it sometime but not all the time i can go all day and it wont do it but if i drive that evening it will act up.
Actually, any broken wires would be an open, rather than a short. Easier said than done...
The fuel pump relay cutting out is more than likely a result of the EEC losing power, not vise-versa. The EEC gets its power through a fusible link attached at the starter solenoid. It may be a bad connection on the solenoid, or the link may be bad. It looks like a thick piece of wire, and is usually stamped "fusible link". Check the harness that runs from the starter solenoid, along the firewall, to the computer harness on the passenger side for any damage.
Most auto parts stores sell links.

Use the diagram link I posted on the other forum and don't forget to check the sockets and wires of the EEC relay for loose or corroded connections.

the wire code that is on that diagram are a little diffrent than the ones on my car, i have one question is the 14Ga Black/orange wire from the eec realy that goes to the EEC computer what # port is is on the ecc so i can check for continuaty it says (KAM) 1 is that the # 1 hole on the connector. i drove it today and it only acted up a few time.
yes, the Keep Alive Memory is the #1 pin on the EEC.

ive checked all the wire for continuaty and they are all coming out good. this problem only happens while driving it it wont do it while the car is at idle. i know its electrical cause when it acts up my temp gage moves to hot and when it stop it will go back to the normal position.
Sounds like a bad ground. Do the earlier cars ground all the harnesses on the same spot, on the drivers side inner fender...like the '87 up cars? If so, the same ground issue would affect the EEC and the dash harness.
I burned the positive lead to the MAF on the header, blowing the fusible link to the EEC. I lost spark, fuel pump and gauges until I replaced it.

No, there are multiple grounds in the harness' - see the below.........all the "G"s are grounds.........
