to find my total timing of 36 degrees i have to first find the EEC timing by revin up to 3500 with the spout removed, and seeing where my timing is at past 0 (or TDC) i understand that....but how on earth am i supposed to know what my timing is when my light blinks on a black dampner(which is goin around at 3500rpm)???(by the way, i mark the 0 in silver, but that dosent help me when it goes anywhere past 0, im not retarded here folks) i could see if my timing light had a read out on it that said....well your at 26 degrees, (just a guess), you need to advance your dist 10 degrees. But i dont know how to do that with a regular light. Or should i buy a light that has that stuff on it, if there is such a thing? i know im just not thinkin of somethin real stupid. please help me, from one Ford guy to another. I need to race this thing or im gonna have a anxiety attack.
I thought that with the spout removed, all you get is the initial or static
timing. Mark the whole timing scale on the dampener, and you will be able
to see the variances caused by moving the distributer. I always time by
ear, so when I was trying to pass the emission test, I borrowed a light.
It wasn't as easy as I had imagined it would be, but I finally got it to ten
degrees. Of course this method is only as accurate as your dampener.

Get yerself a piece of tape, cut a piece that goes from tdc to 12 degrees on the dampner, remove it and make another three times as long, put it on the dampner and mark the spot. and as meangrn said, only as accurate as the tdc on the dampner
