Default Should I get performance valves for my GT40 heads or have them stock specs?

As you probable read in "Doner for GT-40p " I got a set of GT-40 heads for cheap.

Time to to rebuild them.... I looked a valves, and I ave this question.....

I'm on a budget, so I can't get everything. Should I go with basic valves and have angles worked on them or get performance valves.... again I'm on a budget, so don't tell me to get expensive valves and get the worked on......

i would just have the valves that are in them recut and have the seats cut but make sure they cut the top of the stems of the valve too. if they dont you could run into a an adjustment problem with the stock or aftermarket stamped down rockers i have just seen that happen and it would have to come back apart to be fixed. also have them redo the valve guides.and put a new set of springs on them.and good valve seals.the new valves are nice but cost alot and you could get more money in to them than they are new.as long as the valves are not cupped too bad you should be able to use them.good luck:thumbsup

The only weak spot in a mild performance rebuild would be the valve springs. Just get a standard 'valve job' done and replace the springs with a decent set and you'll be OK.

If they are rebuilt be a competent shop all that stang8885 said should be done automatically and included in the quote.

Are you going to port them before you have the seats ground?

Other then gasket matching I don't think I'll do anything to them.... I don't think I know enough to start real porting

you can port at home but it is nothing like having them flowported than each port is same and some flow places will have it so the front cylinder ports flow just a little more to cure front cylinder starvation.but you should atleast gasket match.good luck

Anybody has a estimate of what will be the HP of that setup.....

Explorer intake GT-40 head with valve job, roller rocker, milled for at least 9:1 compression.

Check out the standard abrasives website. Porting is really not that difficult, just time consuming. It's the biggest performance benefit you can get for free.
