Default Will not shift into gear after installing T5 from a 1995 Mustang in a 1992 Mustang GT

Hi I'm new to the forum, I hope to learn a thing or two around here.

My buddy has a 92 5.0 his tranny took a dump on him so he tried to install a t5 he had from a 95 5.0.
With the car on jack stands he said he made it through the gears although a bit rough. However when he dropped the car he couldn't even get it in gear. He said the shifter felt loose and wouldn't go into gear.

Also he said the original tranny had a wiring harness (2 wire connector) that ran up through the floor that the 95 t5 did not have. He doesn't know where it runs to.

Is there ant reason this 95 t5 wouldn't work in a 92?

Any help would be greatly appeciated. I thank you in advance for your help.

I believe that two wire connector is the cruise control connection. It plugs into the speed sensor that bolts into the drivers side of the transmission. I haven't had a chance to work around any 94-95's but I would think it would use the same kind of a neutral safety switch.

Is he sure he had the clutch cable adjusted right and pushed up on the clutch pedal so it could re-set ? Did he replace any other parts why the transmission was off or was it a simple swap ?

Is he sure it was from a GT model?

Sounds like a clutch adjustment issue to me. Could be a bent shift fork too, but I'd look at the clutch first. Oh, and he should be sure the transmission was properly aligned on the dowels so that it's bolted in completely and the clutch assembly isn't somehow lodged between the bell housing and the engine. I've seen some really strange things happen, even when professionals do the work.

I wonder if it's due to the 94-95 T-5's having a longer bellhousing and input shaft than the earlier models. I'd be surprised if the shifter lines up, let alone the driveshaft and cross member fit correctly.

i agree, from everything Ive gathered it seems like that thing wouldnt line up right at all in the shifter department. I dont know from first hand experience or anything. I just know what Ive read.

The 95 tranny with it's almost 3/4" longer input shaft is proably bottomed out in the pilot bearing and or crank shaft. That is if you are using the 92 fox bell. You would eather have to change your input shaft out to the pre-94 (short shaft) or use the 94-95 sn95 bellhousing. You may of damaged the transmission or at least crushed the pilot bearing when you bolted it down. I heard my bearing snap while I was torquing my 95 t-5 down into my 86 GT. Had to learn the hard way!
