i installed my cobra upper/lower intake couple days ago. it had a fairly loud 'whistling' coming from the one of the vaccum lines and from somewhere else... it ran fine for a day and then when i got come, just before i shut it off i heard a hissing, and then 'sploosh', coolant splashed below the engine, it almost stalled, and i quickly shut it off.. so i ripped it apart, but everything looked fine. any suggestions???
also, does anyone know where i can find a detailed diagram for the the hose hookups on the upper intake? the stock intake had one extra hole...
thanks
I would double check your EGR plate gaskets that go between the upper intake and the throttle body. Unless you are in a cold climate I would consider plugging the coolant lines that go to the throttle body and go back into the intake. You will notice cooler intake temps also.
If you have access to a vacuum gauge you can verify you dont have a vacuum leak. Good vacuum is between 15-18 inches.
Did you make sure that you put the ground wire back on the rear of the upper intake ?
i've already connected the lines that go through the EGR plate (mind you i dont have an EGR plate since you dont need one for the cobra intake... right?) and which ground wire are you talking about? theres two holes in the rear of the upper intake. one of them splits three ways (main hose to firewall, and two small lines (MAP, and looks like fuel pressure reg??), and the other line is just a hose which just sits below the intake... thats what was whistleing... its not hooked to anything, i didn't think it should be like that...???
the cobra does not use an egr plate, hoses in the back go to egr solenoid, fuel pressure reg,pcv and the vacumm tree dist. right below the intake in the middle is a fitting that gets a plug.the intake you removed had on extra small fitting in the front that goes to the charcoil canister, you will ned to use the small vacumm fitting located near the neck of the cobra manifold by the throttle body for your canister.
great, thanks Stingrey. the fitting that gets a plug ("right below the intake in the middle is a fitting that gets a plug"), that is on the upper intake, at the rear (when installed), right?
Last time I out the intake on my car the L/R corner didn't seal properly and the same thing you are explaining happened to me.I had to remove the upper and lower intake and install all new gaskets.
