Default 87-93 front end swap??

Is it possible to swap out the front end of a 79-86 Stang and replace it with the 87 - 93 front ends? Also could a GT kit fit on a 79-86 stang?

Yes, it will fit although I do not know how difficult it is as I have never done it. The basic layout of the mustang has not changed since 1979 so most of the parts are transferable.
Personally I prefer the look of the 84-86 cars, though and the swap seems like more trouble than its worth.
If you want to see some pics of how parts transfer:

Jarrett is right on with this, I have a friend that has a 86 and he upgraded the looks to an 89gt. You would never know that he changed the front body when you first look at the car. Good luck..

Default Swap

I drive an '86 and didn't like the four eye look at first. But then I did some reading up on the 84-86 'Stangs and found out that they're quickly becoming a dying breed. So I've decided, for the sake of keeping the car original, to keep the stock front end. With a set of black outs, or clear covers over the lights, the front end looks great. So my suggestion would be to leave the stock front end on. There's really not a lot of them out there, and if you're planning on keeping the car for a long time, you might be glad you kept the four eye look. That's my two cents.

I have done the swap.

Basiclly every thing on the front has to come off. Right down to the radiator support. Your finders can stay, but the side molding is going to be different. It's this side molding that makes the swap inpracticle. You will need to replace the molding all the way around or have mis-matched molding.

So the main parts you need are, a hood and a complete nosepiece. Complete means, brackets, bumper, bolts, everything to bolt it up. All the holes are there so you will not need to add any. You will need to get the headlight electrical plug and rewire it to your headlight wiring.

Other then the molding and wiring, it is a bolt on job.

justnlx is right. but if you want to do the swap the only thing you will have to do that will probably be more expensive that the effects pieces themselves is to get the door mouldings to complete the package. they run 100.00 per side thru next generation. but if you are dead serious on it then it should not be a problem for you. i would love to see one that has left the 79-82 tail lights to it.
