At first, i was looking to get the trickflow head, intake kit which would run me about 2100, totaling 2700 with new fule pump, injectors, TB. But for near the same price i could get a brand new Ford racing crate engine which is around 3000, and should bolt right up to my car.
The engine i have now has 100,000 miles on it, so getting a new engine could be better, but if i get the engine what kind of mess am i getting into? can i use parts from my old engine on the new one?
i'm not shure what i would do in your position... 5.0s last a long time but that motor would deffinetly be a freshen up the heads are not as good as the twisted wedges but thier a lot better then stock.. everything that you have stock would bolt up to that, i would recomend a upper and lower intake throttle body and injector still though on top of that....
the only thing im worried about is that if i get the engine, it could lead to other things needed to be replaced. I have a tight budget, so im thinkg the kit would work best
Are you confident in your ability to rebuild your engine? If so, you could include a rebuild kit, much of which you'll need anyway with new heads, etc. and have a fresh engine with probably better power and torque all across the rpm range.
For $2,700.00 you can buy TW or Track Heat heads and all the required pieces for installation, new intake, all gaskets, new pistons and camshaft, plus you should be able to include new pushrods and rocker arms and possibly all new bearings and the rear main seal. This would include TFS "hard parts" and I'm convinced would make more than 345hp and possibly that much to the wheels. The cam in mind is the TFS Stage II, notably more aggressive than the B-303 that comes with the MotorSport engine, but very street friendly, even for a stock bore 302.
Meanwhile, the remanufactured Motorsport engine would also be fresh and ready, but will cost you well over $3,200 with shipping. That's a $500 difference. There's a plethora of head/cam packages available for the 302HO, many of which would be less costly than an entire 345hp replacement engine and creating roughly the same power, and in some cases much more. The real benefit of the FMS engine is that once it arrives, you can simply remove the old and install the new without any "building" on your own. This saves a great deal of time. Basically all factory components will bolt directly onto either setup without much hassle(aftermarket exhaust recommended). You'll want to replace the harmonic balancer too, unless you have a new one already. That comes on the FMS engine. I think you'll need to swap the oil pan on the FMS engine though(with your original). The FMS will also include a flywheel, which you only need if your car has a 5 speed. That's part of why it cost more.

100,000 is not a lot of miles on a 5.0 if it had regular service. Do a compression test and don't forget the leak down test. Easy to do and will tell you how worn your motor really is.
well you can see that it come with no Intake, upper or lower so you would need one of those. You most likly will not want a Stock intake so you could go with eather a GT40 intake or Cobra intake (same thing only look a bit different) for about $379.95 an you will also want a new throttle body and EGR spacer unless you go with the cobra intake, it does not need it. The problem is, with that much money, your possibilitys are UNDLESS, it must really suck to have have so many choices. You would also need a distributor as well as plugs and wires. The best advice i can give you is to take your time. it is a hard desition to make. What i would do is get some GT40 Turbo Swirl heads for about 700dollars and get some roller rockers, then with the rest just bolt on a turbo. it would be SWEET!
