Default Ground Effects Question

Hey everyone,

I got my first car and happily it was an 1985 mustang gt hatchback. I want to make it look nicer cause it has a lot of rust on it. I am going to need a new nose and a new rear quarter panal. I am not positive if the would fit so i was wondering if anyone know if there would have to be any modifications done to put on an 87-89 nose or rear quarter panal with the rear window onto an 1985 mustang? I was wondering if anyone knows of any places in New Jersey that would sell these parts? Now if they do fit, and i were to put ground effects on them which i plan on doing, what year ground effects would they have to be?...85 or 87-89?

If anyone knows anything about this please let me know by replying to this or emailing me at skoo11@aol.com.

thanks,
scott

If your going to go with the "areo" nose of the '88 and up then you will need the fenders of the same year. Also I believe that the quarter windows will not fit the '85 from an '88 and up.
If your car has alot of rust, you must ask yourself is it really worth repairing. I am asking you this because rust will haunt you. Not very many bodyshops will fix rust situations very good. Meaning if they were to do it will be very expensive and not worth it unless your car will be worth more restored. My opinion, find a rust free car or one that has a very little surface rust. You will that yourself later, believe me. Frank

I am no body man by any means, but I would say "yes" it should fit because the body of the Mustang is basically the same from 79-to-93. Some modifications such as tail light panels might have to be considered. But hey, if your handy with metal, go for it. Frank

I have installed the quarter glass from an '87 up in my '85 GT. While they are not a direct replacement, they will fit. It also requires that you convert the rear interior panels to '87 up style as the 85 onw do not fit properly with the new glass. Also, the later models have different mountign points for the windows so you have to adapt the clips from the 85 to fit the windows. I had to install the entire interior from the doors back to the new style, so get your hands on an old beater with a good same color interior to make the swap cheaper, as those panels are expensive. I can provide more info if you need it.

Thanks. And yes i would like more info on how you converted your 85' to a newer mustang. Please email me at Skoo11@aol.com. Also if you know of any places in the New Jersey area where i can get these panals for a cheaper price or maybe used without rust please include that information.

Thanks again

scott
