I bought an 84 GT with no motor or tranny (originally carburated). Got a block and tranny but, it was taking too much time and money for me to rebuild it right now, and I found a 5.0 EFI from an 88 Tbird priced right. So, Im putting the 88 Tbird motor in the 84 GT for now to give me more time to build the GT block right. I need help with the following wires:
2 photos (attached) w/ gray connector (w/ wires labeled 1 thru 9) are from the 84 GT. The 2 photos are of the same connector, just flip side.
Wiring diagram in my repair manuals are hard to follow.
I think wire labeled #1 -- the Black/Yellow(dashed) -- might be the upshift lamp indicator wire
Wire labeled #7 -- Green/Yellow(dashed) might go to the tach
2 photos (attached) w/ black connector (w/ wires labeled 10 thru 17) are from the 88 5.0 engine wiring harness. The 2 photos are of the same connector, just the flip side.
Wire # 11 Red/LiteBlue may be the neutral safety switch from the ignition switch wire
Wire # 12 Brown/White may go from the ignition switch to the EEC
Wire # 14 Red/ Lite Green goes to a Y fuse link. May go to the coil, distributor, EEC
Wire # 16 White/Red may go from neutral safety switch to the starter relay.
Others Im clueless at this point.
This is just my best guess from trying to identify these wires using the diagram in the repair manuals. I may not be right at all If you know wiring and can help me out, please reply. Please identify the wires by the wire number on the attached photos and indicate what they are, where they go, etc.
Im new to allfordmustangs. Also this is my first time to dig this deep in a 5.0, so your help is greatly appreciated.
Is the stang going to be injected? If so, I'd just get all of the wiring harnesses from a Mass Air Stang, including the engine harness. Or you coul go Speed Density. Is the T-bird engine an HO? If not, you'll need the T-bird (or maybe a truck) computer - and then it should work. I think the front dress on the T-bird motors might be different from the Mustang, but that might be true only for the '89 and up 'Bird.
If you are gonna go with a carb, then just get an engine harness from an
'81-'85 V8. '79 and '80 might work too.
Also, check out WWW.Foureyedpride.com , That site should be pretty
helpful.

Yes, I pulled all the efi stuff out of the Bird, computer, etc. I just got a tank w/ fuel pump out of an '89 Mustang today.
No, it's not HO... : (
But, on the bright side, the '88 non-HO EFI has more horsepower than the stock '84 carb HO. Also, have a later model 8.8 rear end w/ 3.73's. Hope to add some goodies one day that will make it even more fun, like a cam, etc...
Thanx for the foureyedpride link. Good site.
That lite blue/pink wire runs to pin #34 on the computer. No Mustang wiring/computer diagrams I have shows what this is. It must be something used on the Bird and not on the Stang. Or used on non-HO and not on HO. I still have the Bird but it is at my parents house and I don't get over there often. Already have 2 '84 Stangs in the yard... Don't want the neighbors to get too upset... Guess I'm going to have to get over there and trace that wire on the Bird.
Thanks again.
I just realized the lite blue/pink is on a gray connector that I did not submit a photo. It came off of the Bird.
Does anyone know of any online wiring diagrams?

Reason: Ooops -- Wire mentioned not in photos
My FFI & EEC book says that an '88 'Bird (SFI) uses pin# 34 for the "trip-
minder" message center.
I think that some of those old early multiport cars (the more luxuriou$ ones)
had an interactive display which was capable of some light diagnostic tasks.
You'd probably be better off to score the Mustang harnesses, and computer
IMHO. Mass Air is the more desireable setup, it's more adaptable. But you
can still make a Speed Density car maintain 14.7 : 1 (or thereabouts), and
haulass too...
