Default speed density, worth keeping?

I have an 87 GT with speed density. I am thinking about adding new aluminum heads, intake, exhaust, basically changing everything but the block and i have heard people run into problems when they try to get too radical with speed density. I was just wondering if I would be better off converting to mass air when i do all the upgrades or if I'll be alright just leaving the speed density system the way it is?

I was running this combo in my sig and it ran just fine. Ran better than without the mods IMO.

Just be careful with the cam though... not many are speed density friendly.

Keep valve overlap @ .050" lift at zero or negative (no overlap) and you'll be OK. SD needs a good idle vacuum signal for the MAP sensor to work the fuel curve well. My 88 SD cam has 112.5° lobe seperation and runs great.

It measures the amount of fuel needed (MAP and other sensors) based on manifoild vacuum (indirect airflow measurement) from Fords prototype 5.0 HO engine testing.

I'll be at St Louis Internatinal again this year for the big Ford show - we could meet up then. I always wear a 5.0Tech.com t-shirt with "tmoss" stenciled on it.

My wife grew up in Caseyville/Collinsville. We go over to the VFW for Friday night fish on a regualr-irregular basis as her family still lives in Collinsville.

There are chips that will make a SD car run with whatever mod you want to throw into them.

Just a matter of locating a good chip tuner that knows SD systems well.

Including radical cams in the stock DA1 computer?
