A word to the wise about the idle air control valve..

My IAC valve sounded like it was sucking air so I thought I'd replace it. I went to autozone and found that they had the part in stock, but it didn't look like the one on my car, it looked like the one for a fox body and autozone called it a throttle air bypass valve. Despite this contradiction I was assured by autozone that they were the same, so I bought the piece and installed it on my car. Well as soon as I fired her up my idle shot up to about 2500 and would not come down. Just a heads up

I like to get genuine Ford parts when it comes to the electronics. There are plenty of Mustang suppliers that carry them not just the dealers

Try adjusting the idle with that little set screw located on the throttle body.

uh oh. I just bought that bypass valve tonight. Didnt try installing it but it looks the same as my old IAC , but its not black. Whats the difference between the bypass valve and the IAC? They look alike.
Autozones computer said th IAC was N/A for my car. Should I try installing it anyway?

I just bought one for my 88 lx 5.0 , and it fixed my idle jumping up and down problem. I did not experience any of this high rpm you talk about. If you have an intake vacuum leak , it will rpm a lot higher than that.

My new one looks just like the old one. I tried cleaning my old one with rubbing alcohol and qtips and it made it worse (first time i attempted it).
Oreilly autoparts has the same part for 55 with lifetime warranty compare to 41 with 3 month warranty from twilight zone.

I've replaced almost every part of my car. It used to do the rpm fluctuation on my old motor too so I know it was something tagged onto the new system.

The part autozone sold me was the wrong part. Idle jumped up after startup to 2500 as JJ said in the original post. Went to dealership cause I needed it now and overpaid.
