My e brake badly needs adjusting, because I have to yank it all the way to the top for it to work at all. Anyway, I know that there should be a nut I need to tighten. I looked in my Haynes manual, and went to try and do it a while ago, but couldnt see how to tighten it. It is the line which runs from the two that go directly into the ebrake handle right? Its shrouded in a cover, which Im sure is stock, and the nut just seemed to spin when I attempted to adjust it. What am I doing wrong? Ill get pics if I was confusing... Thanks guys...

The way I do it is remove the rear drums, and find the adjustment cylinder. It has several spur like notches on there. I adjust that until it is in the position where the drum goes back on firmly and isnt loose when you try to turn the drum by hand. This is done with the Emergency brake OFF. Must be done on both sides.

If that still doesnt fix it let us know.
So I need to completely remove the wheels and then the drum brakes? Or are you talking about a the backing plate on the drums? Thanks

Remove the tires and the drums.... The drums might stick a bit, so just get a hammer and smoke it a few times. Watch the centre, when that brakes loose just pull and they will come off

Some people dont like to take the drum off because it can sometimes be stuck on there like mofo. I like to take it off to adjust it easier vs adjusting it by removing that rear plug.
Ok, well it just started raining here again, so well see when I get to it, but thanks a lot. I would never have guessed it would be easier to take off the drums....lol I need to check out my shoes anyway. Ill be back if i need help or something, thanks Ghost and everybody.

The Stock Handbrake Sucks, pretty much adjusting the rear brakes is all you can do. With SN95 Brakes I actually have a Handbrake that holds the car on the steepest of inclines!
Talk about resurrecting a thread. This thread is nearly 5 years old! I was never able to get a good ebrake with the drums, i swapped them for discs and its worse. ill be trying the caddy rear calipers next

Did you do the Handbrake Mods and install the Adjustable Center Cable? If so, then you should have an awesome handbrake.
