As the title says finally. I have been waiting for the right stang and the right time to buy one and I finally did. I got a 89 Gt Convert with 43k original miles on it for 4.5k. It already has a h pipe and cat back exhaust. I have a few question about mods... With in the next year I want to hit 310-350hp, is this possible with a stock block.
The mods I was thinking about (wanted to know good quality reliable name brands):
First CIA: Name brand shouldn’t matter here since it is just a pipe, but I would assume the material its made out of does make a difference since some things get hotter then others. So I was wondering what the best material is? (stainless steal?)
Pullies: Wanted to know what a good set of pullies run and some good name brands. ( with this install id get 180 degree thermostat and a electric fan)
Throttle Body: What size, Name brands?
MAF: What size? 73, or 76?
After those mods then gt40 alum heads
Then 3.73 gears
Finally Edelbrock intake manifold
Can a 5.0 handle all of that... will i need bigger fuel injectors, and can the stock 8.8 rear handle that
One of my biggest sources of parts is going to be ebay motors; the other is from my friends dad he owns a speed shop. If any one could comment on my plans or from experience has found other set ups better please let me know it would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou
Stock that motor should put out 225 hp, If you want to skip all that other stuff and go with a 75-100hp nitrous kit you will get close to your 310-350 hp goal. But if you go higher than a 100 hp shot of nitrous fuel upgrades will be a must along with ignition upgrades.
Congrats on your purchase, but I have to tell you the truth. You will not hit your goal with those mods.
The only mods that are actually going to give you any realistic power are the heads and intake together.
The gears will just increase mech. advantage and help accel but not give you hp.
And I noticed you want to put them inbetween the intake and heads.
Here is my advice.
If you want to do all the bolt ons below, great. Do them, and you won't regret them.
But if you consider heads a "bolt on" then go 1 step further, and get a good bolt on head package with good flowing heads, upper/lower intake, good street cam, and end that with some bigger headers (if needed)
Theres no point of putting on a MAF etc, and opening up the air, if you don't open it up, all along the way. Get some better heads, but then get a cam that will really use that added airflow.
That will actually get your power up there without a power adder.
(to be honest, "bolt on" a supercharger w/ external fuel pump, and get your intake, and even with your stock E7 heads you'll make some good grunt.
this kit says it will get you into 350hp for your 5.0 but it anint cheap. part number is
HLY-300-501-1
you can view the kit at summit racing.
Cool thanks that is a little expensive but i was planning on spending that on just the heads and the intake, so its cool. I'm not sure if im going to try and install it my self. I think I would be able to but I want to make sure it gets done right.
Thanks Grn, yea I know gears wont increase my hp number but they def will feel like it
So my mods this summer look there going to be cia (since you can pick one up off of ebay with a knn filter for like 40)..... then the summit kit and gears at the same time.
When buying gears is there anything special i should be looking at. I know all the 5.0s have a 8.8 rear.
well a compairison, for rear ends, i personally am thinking about going to a 9 inch, main reason, 4.10's-3.55's swapped in like half hour, that way when i am going racing, either when i get to the track, or when i leave my house to go meet up with friends, i can put my 4:10's in for the race, or put 3.55's in for economy, either that or i am going to go with 4.10's and a t-56 tranny so i have the normal 5 speeds and then 6th for the hiway, my opinion, maf helps, i went from my stock one to a 73 mm and i noticed a difference on my stock engine, i got a c&l, i am thinking about the fox box, but @ the same time, i am trying to save for my 393 stroker...
