Upgrading a 87 LX front end from 4 lug to 5 lug. Looking to replace ball joints out of the 87 so it will accomodate my 94 spindles and rotors I bought (used). Part store says 87 - 93 use one kind of ball joint and 94- 04 use another. Will the 94 and up ball joint fit into the same hole in my control arm as the 93 and down?
OK here's the long version. First always use the ball joint for your model year. (If they wont fit the new spindles then you might not want to use those spindles) The mounting surface / plate is the big change in most Ford ball joints. All you need to know is are the "bolt" portions of both portions the same length and diameter. Obvious your using the 94 spindle because someone else has already done the swap so no worries. I would say should be the same positioning in the control arm for the new spindle as the old. Iwould recommended looking at both ball joints side by side at the parts store for comparison.

So after some digging into this a little deeper, I can either use the pre 94 ball joint... only I'll have to use a washer to take up the space at the top where the castle nut fits or I can use a 94 and up ball joint and have no issues at all.
