Got a 88 GT
It has about 180k miles on it.
Just incase my engine decides to give out on me, how much money would I have to spend on getting a complete rebuild kit for my 5.0?
I dont care about gaining horsepower/torque so no, I am not willing to buy AFR heads and cam.

Its real hard to tell what all would needs to be replaced without taking it apart. If you throw a rod or something it could trash the whole block. Also do you want to rebuild the stock heads too? What exactly do you want out of a rebuilt motor, stock performance, or a little more?

The reaosn I am looking into rebuilding it is because I am driving it alot and it has alot of miles on it

I would like to buy a rebuild kit for it sometime soon to make the engine pretty much new.


Like I said, I just want to replace stock parts with stock parts UNLESS I can get more power at the same cheap price

An idea..If you are just looking for a stock rebuild..check out some of the local machine/auto stores, you can prolly pick up a rebuilt engine (long block or short block prolly wih a warranty)...this will save alot of time and maybe even money in the long run as I am sure your old motor would need profesionally cleaned and some machine work done etc..so do a comparison on the cost ... I think you will be supprised..anyway my 2 cents good luck
