Default Will my stock master cylinder work after Mark 7 rear disc install?

Hi all,

I just picked up an 88 Lincoln Mark VII. I am going to swap out the rear end and the front spindles (for the 5 lug and disk brakes). My question is Do I need to use the Lincoln Master cylinder and perportioning valve or can I use the one in my 88 gt? I would prefer not using the lincoln master due to cost and the one I have is no good. one more question; I want to swap out my upper and lower intakes for onr out of an Explorer or Mountaineer What year SUV's should I look for.

Thanks

I have heard of many people retaining the stock 5.0 master cylinder or swapping for a 94-95 v6. I would try it then swap if necessary.

Your best bet would probably be to upgrade your booster and M/C so if you decide to make any more changes in the future you will be ready.

You'll need an adjustable proportioning valve for sure. Others on this site would have more expertise than I do on which master is the best. Remember, mc's don't cost very much at all, unless you go to a dealer. I would assume a 93 cobra master would work for this swap.

I think you need a master cylinder from a disc/disc car, otherwise there is a presure check valve in the master that will keep the rear discs "engaged"(they will not retract properly) leading to premature pad/rotor wear on the rear axle. If your present stang has rear discs you can use that master, I would suggest an adjustable prop valve anyway.

That is why you gut the factory prop valve and add the adjustable one. And the handbrake mod will also stop from any rear disc dragging.

i stuck a 89 mark 7 rear under my 94 and it had disc brakes stock and the pedal is a little soft......so id say you need to use all or most of the mark 7 stuff and if you have the whole car and the brakes work you have everything you need, just swap it over.......oh yeah another thing the lincoln rear is way wider then your rear its even 2 inches wider then my 94 stock rear...just lettin you know
