I have an AOD of questionable heritage that a transmission rebuilder friend upgraded for me. Most of the mods that were recomended on "Baumann's" web site were done to it.
The problem I am having is that after adjusting the line pressure we are still unable to get the shift points up high enough to suit me.
At light throttle 2nd comes in at 10mph, 3rd at 20 and OD at 45.
We are not sure what governor is in the tranny (It could be a Crown Vic transmission).
My question is how much difference will Mustang governor make?
Are there any Ford or after market governors that will up the shift points?
I would appreciate any knowledgable input.
with a light throttle, that sounds like normal operation. on the older aods there is a vacuum regulator that controls shifts, instead of electronically. wot= high rpm shifts because little or no engine vac is present. if you really want to shift at a higher rpm couldnt you just put it in manual 1 and 2?

Aod's never had a vacuum regulator. They have a t.v. rod from the throttle to the lever on the side of the trans. The shift points do sound about right. You may want to try contacting Lentech Automatics in Canada. Len is the aod expert.
trans-go makes a shift extender kit which actually works real well,it requires that you drop the valve body again but thats the hardest part.the kit takes five minutes to install replacing a valve and spring but the end result is like night and day.this kit is specific to the AOD only not the AODE.

So could you adjust that cable a little to delay the standard shifts? or is that bad?
After I put in my Baumann shift kit, I adjusted the tv pressure
to 33 psi per factory recommendations (lukewarm trans, in gear)
It shifted soft and early.
I had to bring it up to nearly 40 lbs to get it to shift right,
but now it shifts about where it should and the shifts are
firmer.
Pull the cable out 2 notches at the adjuster and try it.
Pull out more for higher part & full throttle shifts & firmer,
go back a notch if the shift rpms are too high and firm.
