Question 85GT intake + carb on 79 302?

Just in the proces of rebuilding my '79 Ghia 5.0 and now I got a nice set of hedman headers + double exhaust system I got offered a relatively cheap stock intake 4v + Holley 4V carb of a 85GT. I was wondering what the gain in performance would be vs. my stock 2150 2v carb + intake. (engine is still 100% stock). In a later stage I can always port the heads or go for an aftermarket set.

Would it by any means be interesting to swap only the carb + intake and keep stock cylinder head or ????

Any advise / experience in this resepct? Thanks in advance for letting me know.

Melvin

By all means do it. The gains from a 2 bbl to a 4 bbl swap will definitely be noticeable.
The parts will fit fine, and will hold you over nicely until you can do the aftermarket route.

Yup it'll go right on your '79. I ran that exact setup in my '82 GT, a '79 302 with an '85 GT intake - but I had an out of the box Holley 600 universal carb which is rather similar to the GT carb. I later put that setup on my '68 Cougar 302. That intake is sitting in my kitchen now...
You should get an '83 - '85 accelerator cable though. The four barrel ones are somehow different - in addition to having purpleish-pink paint on them whereas yours probably has a gold colored paint on it. For some reason, the two barrel cables wear out quicker when used with a four barrel, but will work.
