i have an 92 5.0 automatic. i have a set of 3.73 gears that i want to put in. how much will these gears drop my top speed? i still need to drive this car on the highway about 6 or 7 miles to work as well as take it on the turn pike once or twice a year so i need it to beable to do 55 - 80 comfortably. do you think this will be a problem? also, how much will my gas milage drop it's about 16 mpg now.

It will not drop your top speed by much, unless you cruise around at 140+ now. It will be able to do 80 mph comfortably with the 3.73's. As for the gas mileage, when I installed the 3.73's in my car the mileage went from 12mpg to 18mpg.

thats cool. i had heard there would be a trade off with the higher gears lowering the top end speed and lowering the gas milage on the high way. maybe this is only true with older, non overdrive car. anyhow thanks for the info.

i want to change the gears in my 69 mustang with a 351w, auto fmx tranny. what ratio should i go with. i have a friend with 4.11's and at highway speeds its insanely high (way too high for me) rpms. if i change the gears what else should i change? would this put excessive pressure on anything that i should be concerned with? i have about 330 hp and not enough $$ for a new transmission and the other parts required to swap in a c4. how much would a QUALITY gear swap cost?
