Hey guys... my starter went and I got a new one. I was going to take it to the shop to get it done but I figured I'd ask you guys how easy it is to do first as I might just do it myself. I'm new to the groups and am glad to be here. Thanks for everything.
Wel i never did a ford starter but i did two other car at school in college. It was easy for me. If you have a owner book it should help you to do the job..
I would save the money and do it yourself... Good Luck

Actually they are very easy to replace. It sits underneath the headers on the passenger side. It's not bad, you can go from either the top or bottom (bottom was easiest for me with stock headers). If you have full length headers then thats another story...man what a pain. Gonna have to go from the bottom at that point. Anyways, sure enough, its pretty easy.

Attack the top with the 1/2" wrench and the bottom either with a socket and lots of extensions though the K member or tough it out with 1/8th turns with the wrench. Remember to disconnect the negative battery cable before working on it.
All you do is replace the large wire going to it on models without the built in solenoid.
You guys are not going to believe this..... the guys who put my Ford Racing Clutch and lightened flywheel in last summer before I put it away for the winter didn't tourque the starter bolts in properly. One bolt fell out and the other backed itself off.... so basically the starter was pivoting on 1 loose bolt. I tightened it and also replaced the one that was missing and boom she is back up and prancing around. The only thing is that I hope it didn't ruin the flywheel too much. I am so happy it worked out this way and I got to return the starter I purchased as well !
That good to hear, that you didn't have to replace the starter.. But suck that the person that did the work forgot some thing...
