Default Crane 1.7 roller rockers + stock valve covers?

I just installed a set of GT40 iron heads from a 93 Cobra in by 87 GT. Unfortunately it doesn't feel much faster. I only notice an increase above 4000 RPM.

I'm thinking that I need the Crane 1.7 roller rockers like Ford installed on the 93 Cobras from the factory. Now I'm running the stock 1.6s I pulled off my old E7s.

Does anyone know if I'll need new valve covers to clear the new rockers?

I also thought I might need the Cobra cam, but according to this, the cam is hardly any different.

I'm also worried about wearing the valve guides, but I'm thinking that since Ford used 1.7s with these heads that it should be OK. Hope I'm right.

87 GT rustbucket. K&N cone, Explorer intake + TB, GT40 irons, BBK long-tubers w/ matching cat pipe, Flowmasters, underdrive, 17 degrees timing on 93 octane.

what i did when i had a clearance problem with the rocker hitting valve cover.
all i did was got 2 sets of reusable(napa) rubber gaskets and super glued them together.
it works great and doesn't cost a bunch of $$$$$.
hope this helps
